Rep. Jim Jordan Expected to Testify in Ohio State Abuse Scandal

Rep. Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and former assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University, is set to provide sworn deposition testimony regarding allegations that he knew about sexual abuse committed by former OSU team doctor Richard Strauss but failed to act. Strauss was found to have committed nearly 1,500 acts of sexual assault during his 20-year tenure, with at least 177 male students confirmed abused. Multiple former wrestlers have accused Jordan of being aware of the abuse, claims he denies, maintaining he never saw or heard of any misconduct. The deposition, scheduled for Friday in Washington, D.C., is part of ongoing civil litigation against OSU by hundreds of former student-athletes and is considered a critical step for survivors seeking accountability. Jordan’s denial contrasts with testimonies in the HBO documentary "Surviving Ohio State," where former athletes describe Jordan as having knowledge of Strauss’s behavior. Other university officials, such as former athletic director Andy Geiger, have also been deposed, with plaintiffs alleging institutional awareness and cover-up of the abuse.
