British-Israeli Soldier Killed by Explosive in Gaza Fighting

Sergeant Yisrael Natan Rosenfeld, a 20-year-old British-Israeli soldier who moved from England to Israel as a child, was killed by an explosive device while serving with the IDF's 601st Combat Engineering Battalion in Gaza. He was highly motivated and proud of his service, inspired by his grandfather, a Holocaust survivor, and had served months in Gaza despite his family's concerns for his safety. Rosenfeld is believed to be the third British-Israeli soldier killed since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks, which resulted in thousands of Israeli deaths and hostages taken. The conflict has resulted in heavy casualties and ongoing military operations, including targeted Israeli airstrikes that eliminated senior Hamas commanders involved in planning the attacks. Israel continues its operations in Gaza amid efforts to recover hostages and respond to the ongoing threats. The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is investigating Rosenfeld's nationality in relation to his death in combat.
