Israeli Fire Kills 70+ Palestinians Seeking Aid Amid Gaza Famine
At least 71 Palestinians seeking humanitarian aid have been killed by Israeli forces amid a deepening hunger crisis in Gaza, with at least 51 killed near the Zikim crossing in northern Gaza and another 20 near the Morag Corridor in southern Gaza. Medical sources and Gaza officials report over 648 wounded and emphasize the catastrophic famine and malnutrition affecting civilians, including 154 deaths from starvation recently, especially among children and the elderly. The Gaza Government Media Office condemned Israel's actions as deliberate attacks targeting starving civilians and accused Israel of using hunger as a weapon of war, calling for the blockade's immediate lifting and safe aid delivery under UN supervision. The violence and blockade have led to a breakdown of law and order, with aid convoys overwhelmed and many aid shipments looted or disrupted. The U.S. Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, is en route to Israel to discuss the worsening humanitarian situation and efforts to resolve the nearly 22-month conflict and hostage crisis. The Israeli military has yet to comment on the shootings at aid distribution points, while Gaza hospitals continue to treat a mounting number of casualties amid warnings of an unfolding famine scenario.
