Iran, US conclude constructive nuclear talks in Rome, plan next meeting in Oman
The United States and Iran have concluded a second round of indirect, Oman-mediated talks in Rome focused on Tehran's nuclear program and American sanctions, with both sides agreeing to continue discussions next week in Oman. Iranian and US officials described the atmosphere as constructive, with technical-level talks set to precede further high-level negotiations. The meetings, led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, were mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, who shuttled messages between the delegations. These talks represent a rare diplomatic engagement after years of hostilities and US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal. Iranian officials emphasized their seriousness and willingness to continue as long as progress is made toward lifting sanctions, while President Trump has indicated no immediate plans for military action against Iran. The nuclear issue remains the sole focus of the discussions, which build on last week's initial meeting in Muscat.
