Florida Governor DeSantis Proposes Downtown Miami Site for Trump Presidential Library

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has proposed the construction of the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library on a 2.63-acre parcel of state land adjacent to the historic Freedom Tower in downtown Miami. The land, currently used as an employee parking lot for Miami-Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, is set to be conveyed to the state pending approval from the Florida Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund, which includes DeSantis and three other state officials. DeSantis emphasized Florida's strong alignment with President Trump's agenda, calling the state the "Free State of Florida" and expressing honor in housing the library in Trump's home state, where he officially resides after relocating from New York. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier supports the project, highlighting Trump’s political comeback and significant achievements such as border security and military rebuilding. The initiative follows legislation passed earlier in the year to facilitate the library's development, preempting local government opposition. This library would be Florida's first and join the existing network of presidential libraries primarily managed by the National Archives and Records Administration.
