Congressman Steven Horsford Seeks Censure of Clay Higgins

Clay Higgins for a controversial post on X that described Haitians as 'thugs' and referred to Haiti as the 'nastiest country in the western hemisphere.' Higgins' remarks, which were made in response to a Haitian advocacy group's legal actions against former President Trump and Sen. JD Vance, have been condemned as inciting hate and fear. Although Higgins deleted the post following backlash from colleagues, Horsford emphasized the need for accountability and proposed a formal reprimand. The House is expected to take up the censure resolution after the November election, as it is currently in recess. Other Republicans defended Higgins' decision to delete the post but did not fully support the censure motion. Horsford stated that such rhetoric is unacceptable and detrimental to the integrity of the House.
