Michele Fiore Convicted of Wire Fraud Charges

Michele Fiore, a former Nevada lawmaker and Las Vegas councilmember, has been convicted of wire fraud after misusing over $70,000 raised for a memorial statue honoring slain police officer Alyn Beck. Instead of using the donations for their intended purpose, Fiore diverted the funds to cover personal expenses such as rent, plastic surgery, and her daughter's wedding. The jury found her guilty on six counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, with each count potentially carrying a 20-year prison sentence. Fiore, who had previously faced scrutiny for her unconventional medical beliefs and political stances, plans to appeal the conviction. The funds were solicited under the pretense of commemorating Beck, who was shot in 2014, but prosecutors revealed Fiore's actions as a scheme to fund her lifestyle. Sentencing is scheduled for January 6, 2024, and she remains free pending appeal.
