Juneteenth Celebrated Nationwide with Expanded Events

Juneteenth, commemorating the June 19, 1865 announcement of emancipation for enslaved people in Texas, is being widely celebrated across the United States with parades, festivals, music, and educational events. Major cities such as Knoxville, Harlem, Houston, Galveston, Erie, and Greeneville are hosting diverse activities including live performances, historical exhibits, and community panels. Harlem's 32nd annual parade will honor African American culture and the legacy of Malcolm X, while Galveston, recognized as the birthplace of Juneteenth, features immersive historical tours. Houston's celebrations are centered at the Nia Cultural Center and highlight Black history and progress. These events foster reflection on the continued impact of slavery and racism while celebrating African American heritage and achievements. Since becoming a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth has gained greater national prominence and participation.
