Uber Electric Offers $4,000 Grants to Eligible Drivers
Uber rebranded Uber Green to Uber Electric and announced a $4,000 “Go Electric” grant program to help eligible, high‑mileage and tenured drivers in New York, California, Colorado and Massachusetts buy new or used EVs; Uber did not disclose the total fund size but expects the grants will help thousands of drivers. All U.S. drivers can access a separate $1,000 TrueCar discount, and Uber said the grants can be stacked with state incentives to lower upfront costs following recent changes to federal EV tax credits (up to $7,500 for new vehicles and $4,000 for used ones). Uber Electric will book only fully electric vehicles and will briefly offer riders a 20% discount to promote the service, while expanding battery‑aware matching to reduce drivers’ range anxiety. The company said it already has more than 200,000 EVs on its platform and reiterated goals of 100% EV rides in major markets by 2030 and globally by 2040, stressing the need for industry and city partnerships to meet those targets.
