Gov. Hobbs Launches Operation Desert Guardian Task Force

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has launched 'Operation Desert Guardian,' a joint task force aimed at enhancing border security in the state's four border counties: Yuma, Pima, Santa Cruz, and Cochise. The initiative seeks to combat Mexican cartels, drug smuggling, and human trafficking by coordinating with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Despite Hobbs' claims of collaboration with local sheriffs, some, like Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot, expressed surprise, indicating they were not informed. The task force is funded by a portion of Arizona's $28 million Border Security Fund and builds on the existing Task Force SAFE, which has been intercepting drugs at Arizona's ports of entry. The new operation will focus on dismantling criminal networks and identifying security vulnerabilities along Arizona's 370-mile southern border. Hobbs emphasized her commitment to securing Arizona’s border and stopping the influx of dangerous drugs and criminals.
