Italy Calls for Immediate Halt to Israel Gaza Offensive Amid Rising Palestinian Deaths

He emphasized the need for humanitarian assistance to resume promptly and for respect of international humanitarian law, warning against any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. Tajani highlighted the grave humanitarian toll, noting over 54,000 Palestinian deaths reported by Gaza health authorities, and reiterated Italy's opposition to any expulsion of Palestinians, describing it as an unacceptable solution. While Italy has historically supported Israel, there is growing unease within its government and opposition parties, the latter of which are calling for sanctions against Israel and official recognition of a Palestinian state. Tajani also condemned proposals such as the U.S. plan for control over Gaza, and expressed support for an Arab plan led by Egypt for Gaza's recovery and reconstruction. He stressed that a peaceful resolution lies in a political process toward a two-state solution, with Italy actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to restore dialogue and end the conflict.
