South Korea Air Force jet drops bombs, injures eight civilians
During a live-fire military exercise in Pocheon, South Korea, a KF-16 fighter jet accidentally dropped eight MK-82 bombs in a civilian area, injuring at least eight people, four of whom sustained serious injuries. The incident occurred around 10:00 am local time, damaging residential buildings and a church, prompting an outcry from local residents who have long protested the dangers of military exercises in close proximity to their homes. The South Korean Air Force expressed deep regret for the incident and has initiated an accident response committee to investigate and provide compensation for damages. Only one bomb detonated, while a bomb disposal team is currently working to safely handle the other unexploded ordnance. This incident coincides with the commencement of joint military drills between South Korea and the United States, which are intended to enhance readiness against threats from North Korea. The Air Force emphasized that such accidents are rare and reiterated its commitment to safety during military operations.
