Houthis Escalate Attacks on Israel-Linked Shipping

Yemen's Houthi rebels have announced a fourth phase in their campaign targeting commercial ships linked to companies or nations doing business with Israeli ports, regardless of nationality or destination. The Houthis claim the escalation is meant to pressure Israel to end its military operations in Gaza and lift the blockade, citing a humanitarian responsibility to support Palestinians. Over 100 ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden have been attacked, including deadly incidents involving the Greek-owned Eternity C and Magic Seas that resulted in casualties and missing crew. Despite previous ceasefire agreements with the US, Houthi leaders state these do not restrict attacks on Israeli-linked vessels. International diplomatic and military efforts have not so far mitigated the threat to global shipping. The Houthis say they will halt attacks only if Israel stops its Gaza operations.
