GE Appliances Plans $3 Billion U.S. Production Expansion, Job Creation
GE Appliances is investing over $3 billion to expand and modernize its U.S. manufacturing operations across Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina, aiming to shift production of refrigerators, gas ranges, water heaters, and clothes washers from China and Mexico back to the U.S. This initiative is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs and marks the second-largest investment in the company's history, reinforcing its commitment to domestic manufacturing. CEO Kevin Nolan emphasized the strategy of manufacturing closer to customers through lean manufacturing, workforce upskilling, and automation, making U.S. production economically viable. The reshoring efforts align with President Donald Trump’s push to bring factories back to the U.S. by imposing tariffs on imported goods. Key production moves include relocating gas range manufacturing from Mexico to Georgia, shifting refrigerator production from China to Alabama, and expanding clothes washer production at the Louisville complex in Kentucky. Since 2016, GE Appliances will have invested $6.5 billion across its U.S. plants and distribution network once the plan is fully implemented.
