Schiff Blocks Trump's US Attorney Nominee

Sen. Adam Schiff has placed a hold on Ed Martin’s nomination as U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., citing Martin's misuse of the office and alignment with Donald Trump's agenda. Schiff, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, criticized Martin for his lack of prosecutorial experience and actions like demoting prosecutors involved in Jan. 6 cases, launching political investigations, and allegedly threatening political opponents. He stated that Martin’s behavior exemplifies the politicization of the Justice Department under Trump and warned that confirming him could have dire consequences. Over 100 former U.S. attorneys have urged a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to evaluate Martin's conduct further. Despite the hold, Martin continues to serve as interim U.S. Attorney. The hold complicates but does not entirely prevent Martin's confirmation, as a roll call vote could be scheduled by the majority party.
