Mansfield ISD Teacher Jared Young Arrested

Jared Young, 33, a science teacher and freshman football and basketball coach at Legacy High School in Mansfield ISD, was arrested on charges including possession and transmission of child pornography, sexual assault of a child and improper relationship with a student. He was placed on administrative leave, booked into the Tarrant County jail, and Mansfield ISD said it has informed him of its intent to terminate his employment. The district said the allegations do not involve current Mansfield ISD students and that it will notify families of students Young worked with as a special-education aide in 2021–22 as a precaution; officials asked anyone with information to contact Alvarado or Mansfield police. Separately, Jonathan Robert Whatley, wanted on a child-pornography warrant from McDowell County, West Virginia, was arrested while teaching at the Dallas County Technical Center in Missouri after a school resource officer discovered the outstanding warrant, and court records show he was denied bond. Both cases prompted rapid law-enforcement notification to school officials, immediate administrative action and outreach to families as districts moved to protect students and assist investigations.
