Former VOA Employee Indicted for Threats to Greene

Seth Jason, a former Voice of America employee and reserve police officer from Maryland, was arrested and indicted on four federal charges for making repeated violent threats, including explicit references to firearms, to kill Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, her staff, and their families over a 15-month period from October 2023 to January 2025. Authorities allege Jason used multiple phone lines and internal resources at VOA headquarters to make eight threatening calls to Greene’s district offices in Georgia. The charges include influencing a federal official by threat, interstate communications with intent to kidnap or injure, and anonymous telecommunications harassment, with a combined potential sentence of up to 17 years. Jason had recently retired from VOA amid mass layoffs and restructuring initiated by the Trump administration. Law enforcement seized several electronic devices from his possession, and officials highlighted the seriousness of threatening elected officials. Prosecutors have not disclosed a motive, and Jason is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
