Nikki Giovanni, Renowned Poet, Dies at 81

Nikki Giovanni, the acclaimed poet, author, and educator, passed away at the age of 81 after battling cancer for the third time. A prominent figure in the Black Arts Movement, Giovanni's work, including over 25 published books, addressed themes such as racism, love, and personal struggles, making her a celebrated literary voice. She spent more than 35 years as a professor at Virginia Tech, where she was remembered for her mentorship and profound impact on her students. Giovanni was honored as one of Oprah Winfrey’s '25 Living Legends' and was the subject of the documentary 'Going to Mars'. She is survived by her partner, family, and a legacy that continues to influence future generations. Giovanni's last poetry collection, titled 'THE LAST BOOK', is set to be released posthumously next year.
