Trump Sets 6 p.m. Sunday Deadline for Hamas
President Trump gave Hamas until Sunday at 6 p.m. Washington time to accept a U.S.-backed 20-point peace plan or face a major new military onslaught, warning that 'all HELL' will break loose and fighters would be 'hunted down.' The plan, endorsed by Israel and several regional partners, calls for Hamas to disarm and immediately release remaining hostages — the White House says about 48 remain, roughly 20 believed alive — while Israel would halt major operations, release prisoners, allow humanitarian aid and place Gaza under international oversight for reconstruction. Egypt, Qatar and other mediators have urged further negotiation, and some Hamas officials rejected a strict take-it-or-leave-it approach even as a Hamas statement said it would release prisoners per an exchange formula contingent on field conditions. Humanitarian agencies report escalating strikes, mass displacement and civilian deaths in areas where residents were ordered to move, raising fears the deadline could trigger large-scale violence. The White House says it hopes for rapid acceptance, but whether the deadline produces an agreement, partial concessions, or renewed fighting remains uncertain as mediators press for clarifications and conditions for any hostage exchange.
