US Urges Restraint After Deadly Kashmir Attack
US Vice President JD Vance has urged India to exercise restraint after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22 that killed 26 people and heightened India-Pakistan tensions. India blames Pakistan for the attack and has responded by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and closing its airspace to Pakistani airlines, while Pakistan denies involvement, calls for a neutral investigation, restricts Indian diplomatic staff, and warns of a resolute response if attacked. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has held calls with leaders from both countries, encouraging de-escalation and responsible resolution. President Donald Trump and other US officials condemned the attack and reaffirmed support for India but stopped short of directly blaming Pakistan. The US is maintaining high-level diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation between the nuclear-armed neighbors. The United Nations has also been involved, stressing the need for regional stability and peace.
