Denmark Summons U.S. Envoy Over Trump-Tied Greenland Influence Operations
Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen summoned the top U.S. diplomat in Copenhagen following reports of covert influence operations by Americans linked to President Donald Trump targeting Greenland. According to multiple sources including Danish intelligence and public broadcaster DR, at least three individuals connected to Trump engaged in efforts to foster a secessionist movement in Greenland to detach the territory from Denmark and potentially facilitate a U.S. takeover. One of these men reportedly compiled lists of Greenlandic citizens supportive of Trump's ambitions as well as opponents, and sought to highlight issues to damage Denmark's image in American media. Denmark and Greenland have firmly rejected these attempts, emphasizing their mutual trust and cooperation, and deem any interference in internal affairs unacceptable. Trump's continued interest in acquiring Greenland, citing national security and the island's resource wealth, has been met with repeated rebuffs from Danish authorities. The incident has heightened diplomatic tensions between Denmark and the U.S., with concerns about the use of soft power and influence operations to destabilize Greenland's relationship with Denmark.
