The estate of the late Isaac Hayes has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Donald Trump, his campaign, the Republican National Committee, and Turning Point USA, seeking $3 million for the unauthorized use of Hayes' song 'Hold On, I’m Coming' at campaign rallies. The lawsuit, filed in Georgia federal court, claims that Trump has used the song at least 134 times without permission since 2020, despite requests to cease its use. Isaac Hayes III, the musician's son, emphasized that the estate does not want Hayes' music associated with Trump, citing the former president's controversial remarks about women and other issues. The estate argues that it regained copyright of the song in 2022 and that Trump's continued use constitutes infringement. The lawsuit includes a demand for a disclaimer stating that the Hayes estate has not authorized any use of its property. As of now, the Trump campaign has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
