EU Seeks Role in Trump's Gaza Transitional Authority

The European Union, through its foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, has expressed a strong desire to participate in US President Donald Trump's proposed transitional authority for Gaza, known as the "Board of Peace." Kallas emphasized that the EU wants to be more than just a financial contributor, aiming to play an active role in Gaza's reconstruction and governance. This initiative involves a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee managing Gaza’s daily services under the Board's supervision, which Trump will chair alongside figures like Tony Blair. The EU's involvement is seen as crucial by Arab partners and is hoped to gain Israeli approval as well. Meanwhile, indirect talks between Hamas and Israel in Egypt focus on implementing phases of Trump's peace plan, including hostage exchanges and ceasefire arrangements. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called for swift implementation of the plan’s initial phase, highlighting goals such as ceasefire and humanitarian aid delivery as achievable steps.
