Israeli Strikes Continue Killing Dozens in Gaza Despite Ceasefire
Despite a declared ceasefire in Gaza, Israeli military operations have continued with artillery, airstrikes, and demolitions targeting eastern Gaza City, Khan Younis, and southern areas, resulting in casualties and destruction of residential buildings. Palestinian health authorities report at least 236 deaths and over 600 injuries from these strikes since the ceasefire began, while Israel has lost three soldiers to Palestinian attacks during the same period. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected calls for a ceasefire extension, vowing to continue military efforts against Hamas until all objectives, including dismantling Hamas leadership and securing hostage releases, are met. The ceasefire, brokered by the US, includes phased hostage exchanges and increased humanitarian access, but violations persist, with Israeli strikes also reported in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah targets, raising concerns of wider regional conflict. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue with meetings in Istanbul involving Hamas and regional leaders to discuss ceasefire durability and humanitarian aid, alongside proposals for a Gaza Stabilization Force to ensure lasting peace and reconstruction. The ongoing violence has exacerbated civilian suffering, displacement, and humanitarian crises, with international calls urging restraint to prevent further escalation.
