Nintendo Switch 2 Surpasses 6 Million Sales Amid Trade War
Nintendo has reported strong early sales for its Switch 2 console, selling over six million units in the seven weeks following its June launch, making it the fastest-selling device in the company's history. Despite the ongoing trade tensions and tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, Nintendo's earnings remained robust, with a 4% growth in operating profit and no significant impact on its full-year sales forecast of 15 million units. The company has increased prices on older Switch models and accessories in the U.S. ahead of tariffs set to take effect in August, but notably kept Switch 2 pricing unchanged to maintain its early momentum. Nintendo also issued a warning about using the Switch 2 in extreme temperatures, advising users to keep the console within 5°C to 35°C (41°F to 95°F) to avoid malfunctions. Popular game titles such as "Mario Kart World" and the upgraded "The Legend of Zelda" series have contributed significantly to the console's success, with software sales reaching 8.67 million units in the first quarter. Nintendo continues to work on strengthening production to meet high demand that currently exceeds supply in several markets.
