Carlos Basualdo Named Director of Nasher Sculpture Center

Carlos Basualdo, a prominent curator with two decades of experience at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, has been appointed as the new director of the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, succeeding Jeremy Strick. Basualdo is known for curating acclaimed exhibitions, including Bruce Nauman’s Golden Lion–winning US Pavilion at the 2009 Venice Biennale and the dual-institution 'Jasper Johns: Mind/Mirror' show. He expressed admiration for the Nasher’s integration with Dallas and emphasized the importance of a reciprocal relationship between the museum and its local community. Board chair David Haemisegger and other stakeholders highlighted Basualdo’s distinguished curatorial achievements and leadership potential, noting optimism for the museum’s future under his guidance. This marks Basualdo’s first directorship, and he plans to engage closely with both staff and the Dallas community to further the Nasher’s mission. The Nasher Sculpture Center, renowned for its collection of over 500 works by artists such as Brâncuși and Basquiat, anticipates a dynamic new chapter with Basualdo at the helm.
