LaCivita claims the reporting created a misleading impression that he was excessively enriching himself at the campaign's expense, damaging his reputation and income. Although The Daily Beast later issued a correction stating that LaCivita's LLC received $19.2 million, LaCivita's legal team argues this did not sufficiently address the narrative of personal greed. The lawsuit highlights that the incorrect figures were also repeated in a podcast segment, which has since been removed. The Daily Beast has described the lawsuit as meritless, asserting that they will vigorously defend their reporting.
