Uzbekistan Orders Up to 22 Boeing 787s; Deliveries 2031
Uzbekistan Airways has placed its largest-ever order with Boeing for up to 22 787 Dreamliners — 14 firm Boeing 787-9s with options for eight more — in a deal valued at over $8 billion. The agreement was announced after President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s recent U.S. visit and was publicly noted by former President Donald Trump; Boeing and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport signed a memorandum to explore expanding the country’s aviation ecosystem. Deliveries of the 787-9s are slated to begin in 2031 as part of a long-term fleet renewal intended to expand long-haul capacity and improve schedule reliability. Uzbek officials say the more fuel-efficient aircraft will enhance passenger experience, help open direct routes to North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, and support U.S. aerospace jobs and supply chains. The order is presented as part of Uzbekistan’s wider Uzbekistan 2030 programme to develop Tashkent as a regional transit hub, and the announcement lifted Boeing shares while drawing market and political interest in commercial jet sales as a tool of trade and diplomacy.
