Apple Postpones The Savant; Chastain Objects

Apple TV+ postponed the eight-part limited series The Savant, starring and executive-produced by Jessica Chastain, saying only it had delayed the show “after careful consideration” and offering no new release date. The political thriller follows an undercover investigator who infiltrates online hate groups to stop domestic extremists and, according to reports, includes violent elements such as sniper fire and a government-building bombing. The decision came as the series was set to premiere Friday and prompted speculation that its timing and violent focus influenced the pause after the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Chastain posted on Instagram that she was “not aligned” with Apple’s decision, praising the streamer while arguing the series is urgently relevant in light of recent acts of political violence. Apple has not elaborated on its rationale.
