NHTSA Intensifies Probe Into Tesla Robotaxi Safety

Regulators are also examining whether Tesla’s robotaxis meet federal safety standards, the level of automation, the possibility of remote supervision, and compliance monitoring. Tesla has begun limited paid ride-hailing operations with employees in Austin and San Francisco and is training first responders, emphasizing its vision- and AI-based approach while rejecting radar and lidar. The broader FSD system remains under federal investigation.
