Ford Issues Record 700K Vehicle Recall Over Fuel Fire Risk

In 2025, Ford set a new record for the most vehicle recalls by any automaker in a single calendar year, reaching 89 recalls, surpassing the previous record held by General Motors in 2014. Among the most recent recalls is a major one affecting approximately 700,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs due to cracked fuel injectors that could leak fuel and cause engine compartment fires. Ford is currently offering a free interim software upgrade to detect these cracked injectors and reduce fire risk while working on a permanent fix. The company attributes the high recall numbers to a proactive strategy involving audits and follow-ups on past recalls, including expanding some earlier recalls and increasing its safety team. Despite the record number of recalls, Ford expects quality improvements to reduce recalls in the future and has stated that a significant portion of the recalls stem from ongoing efforts to identify and fix issues quickly. Financially, the recent fuel injector recall is expected to impact Ford's second-quarter results by $750 million, while no injuries have been reported related to this recall.
