Project Runway Contestant Arthur Ah Loo Killed at Utah No Kings Protest
Arthur Folasa “Afa” Ah Loo, a 39-year-old Samoan fashion designer and Season 17 contestant on Project Runway, was fatally shot during a No Kings protest in Salt Lake City, Utah. The incident occurred when armed security guards, referred to as “peacekeepers,” opened fire on Arturo Gamboa, 24, who brandished an AR-15-style rifle and ran toward the crowd. Ah Loo was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire and died at a local hospital, while Gamboa was injured and arrested, facing a murder charge. Ah Loo was known for his bold designs inspired by his Samoan heritage and had recently become an American citizen, proudly voting for the first time in 2024. Utah officials and community members, including Utah Rep. Verona Mauga and Rep. Doug Fiefia, mourned his loss, highlighting his role as a bright light in the Polynesian community and his commitment to equity and equality. Authorities continue to investigate the shooting, emphasizing they will not let the act instill fear in the community.
