U.S. LGBTQ+ Identification Nearly Triples Since 2012

A Gallup survey indicates that 9.3% of U.S. adults now identify as LGBTQ+, a marked increase from previous years and nearly tripling since 2012. This growth is largely attributed to younger generations, particularly Gen Z, where more than 22% identify as LGBTQ+. Older generations, such as millennials and Generation X, show smaller but notable increases. The survey, which involved over 14,000 U.S. adults, shows that the majority of LGBTQ+ identifiers are bisexual. This trend aligns with global findings, where social acceptance and awareness have contributed to increased LGBTQ+ identification. Despite legal and social challenges, the data underscores the persistent and growing visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals in society.
