MLB Lifts Ban on Deceased Players for Hall Consideration
Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has lifted the lifetime ban for deceased players, clarifying that permanent bans now end upon death and allowing figures such as Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson to be eligible for Hall of Fame consideration starting in December 2027. This decision was influenced in part by President Donald Trump's public advocacy, including a meeting with Manfred and a promise of a posthumous pardon for Rose, as well as input from other sources. Trump also publicly criticized MLB for not previously honoring Rose’s achievements. Actual Hall of Fame induction for these players will require a vote from the Classic Baseball Era Committee. The move has generated mixed reactions among baseball fans and observers. Additionally, Manfred discussed the potential introduction of robot umpires in the 2026 season and ongoing national TV rights negotiations.
