Trump Plans to Restructure EPA, Slash Budget

This proposal, which has been shared with the White House, is part of a broader strategy to reduce the federal workforce and cut the EPA's budget by 65%. Critics, including Democratic lawmakers, have condemned the plan as an attack on the agency’s ability to fulfill its mission of protecting public health and the environment. The ORD employs a significant number of scientists whose research underpins the EPA's policies on pollution, public health, and environmental hazards. The plan also suggests reassigning remaining staff to align with new administration priorities, sparking fears of a politicization of environmental science. EPA spokesperson Molly Vaseliou stated that no final decisions have been made, and the agency is actively seeking input from employees to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
