Kennedy Center Confirms Over 20 Show Cancellations Since Trump's Takeover

Since Donald Trump took over as chair of the Kennedy Center's Board of Trustees, more than 20 shows have been canceled or postponed, with explanations often citing low ticket sales or artist unavailability. However, several artists, including Lin-Manuel Miranda and Issa Rae, have withdrawn in protest of Trump's leadership, citing a misalignment of values. Despite the Kennedy Center's claims that all cancellations were for practical reasons, some performances with themes contrary to Trump's conservative views have been notably impacted. The list of affected events was released by Roma Daravi, the center’s new VP of Public Relations, to counter misinformation. Nonetheless, the cancellations have sparked controversy, with some artists and producers alleging deeper political motives. The Kennedy Center continues to host events, including a performance by the J6 Prison Choir, composed of individuals previously imprisoned for their involvement in the January 6th Capitol riot.
