U.S. Deportation Flight Carries 135 Migrants to Costa Rica

On a recent flight from the U.S., 135 migrants, mostly families from Central Asia and other regions, arrived in Costa Rica as part of the Trump administration's deportation strategy. These migrants, including 65 children and several pregnant women, were not flagged as security threats by U.S. authorities and will be temporarily housed in a facility in southern Costa Rica prior to repatriation. Costa Rican officials noted that the agreement to accept these migrants aligns with the country's commitment to human rights, although concerns persist regarding the potential dangers they may face upon returning to their home countries. The operation is being coordinated by the International Organization for Migration, emphasizing a humanitarian approach amidst the deportation efforts.
