US Government Announces $861M Solar Loan in Puerto Rico

The U.S. Department of Energy is providing significant financial support to enhance Puerto Rico's energy security by offering conditional loan guarantees totaling $861 million for solar and battery storage projects. Clean Flexible Energy, an AES Corp and TotalEnergies subsidiary, will manage the construction of solar photovoltaic farms and battery storage systems in Salinas and Guayama, potentially powering 43,000 homes. This initiative aligns with President Biden's agenda to create jobs, rebuild Puerto Rico's electric grid, and reduce emissions significantly. The projects aim to improve energy resilience, affordability, and grid stability, with advanced hurricane-resistant technology being integrated to protect equipment during severe weather, setting a model for solar energy in vulnerable regions.
