Europe Urges Iran to Accept Conditions to Postpone UN Sanctions

Britain, France, and Germany, known as the E3, have urged Iran to accept a compromise to delay the reimposition of UN sanctions by up to six months if Tehran restores access for international nuclear inspectors, addresses concerns about its enriched uranium stockpile, and engages in talks with the United States. This offer follows the E3's initiation of a 30-day snapback process to reinstate sanctions under UN Resolution 2231 due to Iran's breaches of the 2015 nuclear agreement. Despite the Europeans describing their demands as reasonable and achievable, Iran dismissed the proposal as containing unrealistic preconditions and called instead for an unconditional technical extension of the resolution. Meanwhile, China and Russia have floated a draft resolution to extend the timeline for six months and encourage negotiations but have not sought a vote, removing language that would block the snapback of sanctions. EU officials emphasized that the 30-day window remains an opportunity for diplomacy, with the E3 reiterating that their offer to postpone sanctions remains on the table.
