Lawsuit Filed Against TCEQ Over SpaceX Wastewater

Environmental groups in the Rio Grande Valley have filed a lawsuit against the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), alleging the agency unlawfully permitted SpaceX to discharge wastewater at its Boca Chica launch site without a proper permit. The plaintiffs, including the South Texas Environmental Justice Network and the Carrizo/Comecrudo Nation of Texas, claim the TCEQ's actions violate the Clean Water Act and pose risks to local ecosystems. Despite SpaceX asserting that the discharged water is 'potable drinking water,' the groups contend it contains pollutants and has harmed the surrounding environment. The lawsuit follows TCEQ's previous citations against SpaceX for improper discharges during rocket launches. The agency has not commented on the pending litigation. This suit is part of a broader concern regarding SpaceX's environmental impact in the region.
