Trump Officials Push ICE to Reach 3,000 Daily Arrests
Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff and architect of President Trump's immigration policy, is pushing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to increase daily arrests of illegal immigrants to 3,000, tripling the current rate and aiming for the largest mass deportation operation in U.S. history. This directive, supported by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, was conveyed during a meeting with ICE leaders, with Miller reportedly warning that failure to meet targets could risk job security. The Trump administration's goal is to remove those who entered during the Biden administration, many of whom came under legal programs, reflecting a more aggressive stance on immigration enforcement nationwide, beyond border communities. Despite a significant drop in illegal border crossings, deportations have stalled partly due to court pushbacks, and the administration is seeking increased resources and congressional funding to meet these ambitious enforcement goals. White House officials emphasize their commitment to efficiently removing illegal immigrants to protect American safety, with prior quotas already set at 1,800 arrests per day earlier in the year. Achieving the 3,000 daily arrests target could lead to over one million deportations annually, surpassing previous records.
