Sony raises PlayStation 5 prices by 11-25% in Europe, UK
Sony has announced a significant price increase for its PlayStation 5 console in Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, citing high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates as key factors. The price of the PS5 Digital Edition will rise by approximately 11% to €499.99 in Europe and £429.99 in the UK, with similar increases expected in other markets. This marks the second price hike since the console's launch in 2020, with the previous increase occurring in August 2022. While Sony does not explicitly attribute the rise to U.S. tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, the company acknowledges the challenging economic landscape impacting manufacturing costs. The PS5 Pro will remain at its current price, and there is a slight price decrease for the external disc drive accessory. Analysts suggest a potential price increase may be forthcoming in the U.S. market as well, where current prices are unchanged.
