Modi Concludes Landmark Africa, Latin America Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his historic five-nation tour with the first Indian prime ministerial visit to Namibia in 27 years. During the visit, Modi and Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah agreed to deepen cooperation in defence, maritime security, digital technology, agriculture, health, energy, and critical minerals such as uranium, diamonds, cobalt, and lithium. Modi highlighted India's $12 billion development partnership with Africa and emphasized mutual respect and local capacity building. Both nations discussed expanding trade and fast-tracking negotiations for a preferential trade agreement to boost bilateral investment. Modi received Namibia's highest civilian honor and engaged with the Indian diaspora. The tour reflects India’s strategy to secure alternative sources for critical minerals amid intensifying global competition, especially as China imposes stricter export controls.
