Vietnam Approves Starlink Regulations Amid US Tariff Concerns

Vietnam is poised to implement new regulations that will allow Elon Musk's Starlink to provide satellite internet services while retaining full ownership of local subsidiaries. This policy shift follows prolonged negotiations with SpaceX and is viewed as a diplomatic gesture aimed at addressing concerns over potential tariff threats from the U.S. government under President Trump. The regulations will enable full foreign ownership of internet providers operating low-orbit satellite networks under a pilot program set to last until 2030, pending approval from Vietnam's prime minister. Previously, attempts by SpaceX to enter the Vietnamese market were hindered by a ban on foreign control of satellite internet providers. The move is also seen as a strategy to bolster Vietnam's economic ties with the U.S. and could help reduce the country's significant trade surplus with America. SpaceX is reportedly considering a $1.5 billion investment in Vietnam, further signaling its commitment to the market.
