Apple's Share Item Location Feature for AirTags

Apple is introducing a new feature called Share Item Location within the Find My app, allowing users to share the location of AirTags with airlines to help recover lost luggage. The feature, part of iOS 18.2, will enable users to generate a secure, shareable link that shows the AirTag's location on an interactive map for a limited time and will be accepted by over 15 airlines, including Delta and United, to improve the efficiency of retrieving misplaced baggage. Privacy is maintained as users can stop sharing anytime, and links expire automatically after seven days. This development addresses previous concerns about AirTags, which were criticized for potential misuse, by offering a controlled way to share location data with airlines. The feature is currently available in public beta and expected to roll out more broadly in early 2025.
