Global EV Sales Surge 29% in Q1 2025, Driven by China

Global electric vehicle (EV) sales surged by 29% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, totaling 4.1 million units, with significant contributions from China, Europe, and North America. China led the market, accounting for 58.5% of sales, while Europe and North America experienced growth of 27% and 16%, respectively. In March alone, nearly 1 million EVs were sold in China, and the UK set a record with over 100,000 units sold. However, sales in France declined by 18% due to reduced incentives. Despite rising sales, North American growth is being hindered by new tariffs and policy uncertainties. Experts warn that these tariffs could disrupt supply chains and lead to increased prices, particularly affecting U.S. automakers reliant on imported components.
