Lionesses Celebrate Second Euro Title at Downing Street Reception

The England Lionesses were celebrated with a special reception at 10 Downing Street hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Sports Minister Stephanie Peacock, following their historic victory in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 final against Spain. The team, led by captain Leah Williamson and coached by Sarina Wiegman, received a heroes' welcome upon returning to the UK, including a water cannon salute at Southend Airport and enthusiastic crowds waving flags and banners. The reception highlights the government's commitment to supporting women's sports, including a recent £900 million investment in sport infrastructure and initiatives to provide equal access to physical education in schools. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer praised the Lionesses as an inspiration for young people nationwide and acknowledged the lasting impact of their achievements on the future of the game. The celebrations will continue with an open-top bus parade along The Mall, culminating in a ceremony outside Buckingham Palace. Notably, Starmer was absent from the reception, attending a meeting with President Donald Trump in Scotland.
