Trump Threatens 'Eradicate' Hamas; Envoys Seek Truce
U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Israel and Vice President J.D. Vance was headed there as diplomats raced to salvage a week-old, U.S.-brokered 20-step ceasefire after a disputed Rafah incident that killed Israeli soldiers and prompted Israeli strikes that killed dozens of Palestinians. The violence — including tank fire and confusion over the ceasefire’s demarcation line — has produced civilian casualties and renewed fears the truce could collapse. President Trump warned the U.S. and its allies would "eradicate" Hamas if it violates the ceasefire again, while Hamas denied responsibility for the Rafah incident and accused Israel of breaching the agreement. Washington is pressing Israel and Hamas to implement the next phases of the plan and is expected to hold parallel talks with Hamas in Egypt. Humanitarian groups warned aid deliveries will remain disrupted as high-level diplomacy continues amid domestic Israeli pressure and calls for harsher responses.
