Lufthansa Q2 Operating Profit Rises 27 Percent Amid Strong Demand, Confirms 2025 Outlook
Lufthansa Group reported a strong second quarter in 2025, with net profit more than doubling to around 1 billion euros and adjusted operating profit rising 27% year-on-year to 871 million euros. This performance surpassed analyst expectations and was fueled by increased passenger traffic, operational stability of its core brand, lower fuel costs, and contributions from its investment in ITA Airways. CEO Carsten Spohr highlighted ongoing transformation efforts amid challenges such as delayed aircraft deliveries, rising costs, and burdensome EU regulations, but confirmed a positive outlook for the full year with expected operating profits significantly higher than in 2024. Despite geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties, demand from U.S. travelers remains strong, offsetting weaker European bookings, and Lufthansa plans further capacity growth particularly in the North Atlantic market. The airline's turnaround program has improved punctuality and operational stability beyond pre-pandemic levels, supporting improved customer satisfaction and profitability. Lufthansa also noted strong performance in its cargo segment and logistics business, reinforcing its position as a leading global airline group.
