Driver Shot at Alameda Coast Guard Base

Late Thursday around 10 p.m. at Coast Guard Base Alameda, law enforcement fired multiple rounds at a U-Haul truck that was driving erratically and appeared to attempt to ram the base. Coast Guard security personnel say they issued repeated verbal commands and discharged defensive live fire when the vehicle posed a direct threat; no Coast Guard or law enforcement officers were injured. The driver was shot in the stomach, is being held for a mental-health evaluation and is expected to survive. A bystander was struck by a bullet fragment, treated and released, and another person was also reported injured. Video from the scene shows the truck reversing toward armed personnel before officers opened fire, and the FBI is leading the investigation while U-Haul says it is cooperating. The shooting followed earlier protests at the base against the arrival of federal immigration agents.
